Aid provided to people displaced by armed conflicts in Rakhine State

For fulfilling the necessities of IDPs and locals displaced by armed conflicts in Rakhine State, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a ceremony to hand over aids to Rakhine State Government in Sittway yesterday.

Present at the meeting were Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population, U Thein Swe, Union Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Dr Win Myat Aye, Chief Minister of Rakhine State U Nyi Pu, Deputy Minister for the Office of State Counsellor, U Khin Maung Tin, Deputy Minister U Soe Aung Tin and officials.

At the event, Dr Win Myat Aye handed over rice money of K156.582 million to Chief Minister U Nyi Pu for the IDPs.

The aid started in the third week of December, 2008, and this was the 6th time. For 76039 people 1.414 billion kyats worth of rescue equipment has been given so far.

About 80% of the IDPs camp construction has been finished. These camps will be used as temporary shelter for Rakhine IDPs and Locals.
